Overview: 

Bluegrass Greensource is looking for a highly motivated and experienced professional to join its  education team. This Environmental Education Leadership Corps (EELCorps) Educator will work  primarily at Buckley Wildlife Sanctuary, to develop and facilitate educational field trips and programs.

Background: 

Bluegrass Greensource was formed in 2001 to provide environmental education and resources that  equip and empower Central Kentuckians to ensure clean, healthy, and enjoyable environments. Our  staff members are dedicated to environmental education about water quality, ecology, waste  reduction, and energy. We focus on facilitating preschool-high school, business and adult education  in 20 counties. In 2024, Bluegrass Greensource was given the opportunity to oversee Buckley Wildlife  Sanctuary in Woodford and Franklin counties. We will continue with the outreach work that is central  to our mission, while building new opportunities for education onsite at Buckley Wildlife Sanctuary. 

Position description: 

The duties and responsibilities of the AmeriCorps Educator include but are not limited to the following.  Position may be tailored to the applicant’s strengths and interests. Position will be based primarily at  Buckley Wildlife Sanctuary and in the Woodford County area. 

  • Develop environmental education programming for school field trips to Buckley Wildlife  Sanctuary 
  • Teach environmental lessons to students at nearby schools, prior to field trips to Buckley Wildlife  Sanctuary 
  • Lead environmental education activities at field trips and programs at Buckley  Coordinate educational programs at Buckley for youth and adults 
  • Update and develop educational resources for visitors to Buckley (i.e. trail guides, nature  center displays) 
  • Perform related duties as required 

o Aid in maintaining educational resource library by keeping inventory of supplies,  replacing materials as needed, and checking materials out to community members (as  requested) 

o Aid in preparation and safety checks of field trip sites 

o Keep records of all educational programs, lessons, and events 

o Maintain accurate weekly time and travel records

Minimum qualifications: 
  • Experience working with youth 
  • Familiarity with environmental and outdoor education 
  • Eagerness to provide high-quality, inclusive environmental education in formal and non-formal education settings 
  • Self-motived and able to meet deadlines
  • Able to collaborate, communicate, and coordinate effectively with team members, teachers,  students, and community members 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Google applications (Gmail, Drive,  Calendar) 
  • Available for some evening and weekend events 
  • Able to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds 
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation 
Desired qualifications: 
  • Training and experience in environmental education 
  • Bilingual 
Physical demands of the position: 

Work is performed at Buckley Wildlife Sanctuary (Greensource’s office) and at schools/field trip  locations, both indoor and out; intermittent standing, walking, stooping is required; must be able to lift  objects weighing less than 25 pounds as a job requirement; must operate vehicle.  

Compensation and benefits: 

This is a half-time AmeriCorps position. Half-time volunteers commit to 900 hours of service between fall of 2026 through August of 2027.  Volunteers receive a total living stipend of $10,750 divided up  and provided on a bi-weekly basis. The volunteer will receive environmental education training in  national curricula. Benefits include travel reimbursements, access to the Mental Health Member  Assistance program, and a Segal Education Award of $3,697.50.
