Elementary Environmental Education
Bluegrass Greensource’s elementary outreach programs engage students in exploring patterns and relationships in our natural world. Through a series of 3 lessons with BGGS educators, students develop a foundational awareness of their environment. Series topics include: water, energy, ecology, and recycling. Lessons align with state and national education standards. BGGS educators select and plan lessons that meet the needs of the participants. Water Education
Water is essential for life and is all around us! In our water education program, students connect with their nearby water bodies by investigating the properties of water, the movement of water, and aquatic ecosystems. Program may be adapted to focus on stormwater, topography, or a creek day. (ESS2, ESS3, LS1)
Energy Education
In our energy education program, students discover the sources, forms, and flow of energy all around! Our primary energy program invites students to observe and measure the effects of the sun, wind, and water on our planet. Students in intermediate grades examine benefits and constraints of energy sources, energy transfer, and electricity. Lessons support NGSS standards ESS1, ESS3, and PS3.
Recycling/ Waste Reduction Education
How do human activities impact Earth’s resources and environments? Students examine the roles of landfills, recycling, and household hazardous waste disposal as they consider the relationships between humans and natural resources. Lessons support NGSS standard ESS3.
This program currently available for classes in Lincoln County and Garrard County.
